Rates
As an independent freelance translator who works directly with clients, I am able to offer you fair and competitive rates.
My charges for translations are based on the subject area, level of difficulty and length of the text to be translated. For a free quote, please click here.
Clients from North America (Canada, U.S.): All translations are calculated on a per-word basis at a standard rate of USD 0.15 per word (target text). The great majority of translations are priced at the standard rate, although a surcharge of USD 0.01 to USD 0.05 per word may be applied for rush jobs, highly technical projects, poor legibility and special formatting requirements. A minimum charge of USD 30.00 is applied to translation projects containing 150 words or less in the source language.
Clients from the EU countries and Switzerland: All translations are calculated on a per-line basis (1 line = 55 characters including spaces) at a standard rate of EUR 0.95 per line (target text). The great majority of translations are priced at the standard rate, although a surcharge of EUR 0.05 to EUR 0.60 per line may be applied for rush jobs, highly technical projects, poor legibility and special formatting requirements. A minimum charge of EUR 25.00 is applied to translation projects containing 1,000 characters (including spaces) or less in the source language.
Please note:
When an English text is translated into German it tends to expand by approximately 15% to 35%. This phenomenon, known as text expansion, occurs because translation is not a one-to-one process. The word "I" in English translates to "ich" in German, thus adding two characters (66%). Therefore, the invoice for a completed translation project will always be calculated on the basis of the target (= translated) text.
When comparing prices, please keep in mind that quality does not come cheap.

Proofreading services are charged by the hour. My rates range from EUR/USD 25.00 to EUR/USD 30.00 per hour for proofreading, depending on complexity (the rate is generally higher for technical, legal, medical, mathematical or scientific text, or for text that needs a higher level of editing).

Ordering and payment
- Please send your order by e-mail or fax. For the quickest response, e-mail is recommended: translation@beichtbuchner.com. For invoicing purposes, your order must include your postal address. Every order will be confirmed by e-mail. Your documents will be handled with the strictest confidence.
- After I receive your order, I will send you an e-mail confirmation regarding the delivery date, cost and format.
- Your completed text will be delivered to you by e-mail (or by fax or mail upon request).
- Along with your completed translation, you will receive an electronic invoice (pdf). Invoices are to be paid in full within 21 days from date of invoice.
Clients from the EU countries and Switzerland: Payment can be made by cross-border euro transfer into my Austrian bank account (no banking charges!).
Clients from North America (Canada, U.S.): Payment can be made by bank transfer into my U.S. account, or alternatively by check or money order (payable to Michaela Beichtbuchner).
